Metafields

Keld reads product data such as specifications, fitment and bundle parts from product metafields. You create each metafield definition once, then fill in the values on each product.

All Keld metafields use the custom namespace. Everything works without them: a block or panel whose metafield is empty doesn't show.

Create a definition

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings › Metafields and metaobjects › Products.
  2. Click Add definition.
  3. Enter the Name, then set Namespace and key exactly as in the table below (for example custom.fitment).
  4. Choose the Type from the table. For list types, choose the type and then List of values.
  5. Click Save.

The metafields then appear at the bottom of each product page in admin, under Product metafields.

The metafields Keld reads

Namespace and keyTypeUsed for
custom.fitmentSingle line text, list of valuesVehicle fitment: one Make|Model|YearFrom|YearTo per entry. See Vehicle fitment.
custom.spec_sheetSingle line text, list of valuesSpecification rows: one Label|Value per entry, for example Material|T304 stainless. Shows in the Specifications panel and the Featured product section (first five rows).
custom.spec_lineSingle line textOne short line under the product name on product cards, for example T304 · 76 mm · valved.
custom.short_descriptionMulti-line textThe short text under the product title. Falls back to the first paragraph of the description.
custom.seriesSingle line textAdded after the subheading above the product title, for example "Street · Series 2".
custom.price_noteSingle line textA small note beside the price, for example "per wheel".
custom.kit_productsProduct, list of valuesParts suggested in the Complete the kit block.
custom.on_car_imagesFile, list of valuesPhotos for the "Fitted on car" gallery tab.

Optional panels

The Collapsible panel block can show any product metafield in the custom namespace: set Content to Other product metafield and enter the Metafield key. The demo uses two:

Namespace and keySuggested typeUsed for
custom.in_the_boxMulti-line textAn "In the box" panel listing the parts included.
custom.fitting_notesRich textA "Fitting notes" panel.

These panels accept rich text, multi-line text, single line text and lists of single line text.

Filling in values

  • List types (fitment, spec sheet): add one entry per line using the + button in the metafield editor.
  • The | separator: type it between parts, with no spaces needed. Keld trims extra spaces around each part.
  • Bulk editing: to fill many products at once, use the bulk editor (select products › Bulk edit › add the metafield column) or a product CSV import with columns named like Fitment (product.metafields.custom.fitment). In a CSV, separate list entries with a new line inside the cell. Create the definitions before importing.

Color swatches

Color dots on product options don't use these metafields. They come from Shopify's Color category metafield, linked to the option. See Product page › Color swatches.
