Keld documentation

Keld is a Shopify theme for automotive parts stores. It is built around one idea: a shopper sets their vehicle once, and collection pages, product pages and the cart show whether each part is listed for it.

These pages explain every section and setting in the theme editor, using the same names you see there.

Install Keld

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Themes.
  2. Add Keld from the Shopify Theme Store. It is added to your theme library as an unpublished theme.
  3. Click Customize to open the theme editor. Your live store doesn't change until you publish.
  4. When you're ready, click Publish.

Keld has one preset, also called Keld. It installs with the layout, colors and fonts of the demo store.

First steps after installing

Work through these in order. Each step links to the page that explains it in full.

  1. Add your logo. In the theme editor, open the Header section and set Logo image, or use Text logo for a text logo. See Sections › Header.
  2. Set up your menus. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Navigation. The header uses Main menu and the footer uses a menu per Link list block. To give a top-level menu item a large panel, add a Mega menu block to the Header. See Sections › Header.
  3. Replace the vehicle list. Go to Theme settings › Fitment › Vehicle list and enter the vehicles you sell parts for. See Vehicle fitment.
  4. Create the product metafields. Keld reads specification, fitment and bundle data from product metafields. Create the definitions once, then fill them in on each product. See Metafields.
  5. Set up filters. Collection and search filters come from Shopify's Search & Discovery app (Apps › Search and Discovery › Filters).
  6. Turn off the demo labels. While your data is still sample data, Keld shows small dashed Demo tags next to fitment, prices and image lists. Once your data is real, turn off Theme settings › Fitment › Show "Demo fitment" label.
  7. Choose your colors and fonts under Theme settings › Colors and Typography. See Theme settings.

Where things live in the theme editor

  • Theme settings (the paintbrush icon) holds settings that apply to the whole store: colors, typography, layout, motion, header, fitment, cart, favicon and social media.
  • Header and Footer groups appear at the top and bottom of every page.
  • Overlays holds sections that open on top of the page: the Cart drawer, the Vehicle selector dialog and the Slide-in offer. Keep them in Overlays.
  • Each page type (home page, product, collection, blog and so on) has its own template. Use the page selector at the top of the editor to switch between them.
